Options for December/January

Hi Friends. We have 3 books to choose from for December/January. We'll be meeting at Camp Bar in Shorewood in late January, so that means we have a few extra weeks to get the reading done. So maybe we can go for a longer book.

The Story of the Lost Child by Elena Ferrante. I hear this book is hot on the book club scene.
"Everyone's reading it." It's (maybe) an autobiographical story of the mysterious author's childhood growing up in Italy.

Devil in the White City by Erik Larson. A critically acclaimed non-fiction account of a serial killer on the loose in Chicago during the 1893 World's Fair.

The Girl In the Train by Paula Hawkins. Voted (by a landslide) by Goodreads readers as the best thriller of 2015. It's been compared to Gone Girl.

Pick your favorite and vote. Scroll down below this post to find the poll. Voting ends December 11th.

See you in January!

Happy reading.

November Read

Our pick for November was All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr.

Happy reading.

October's Mysterious Read

In sticking with our tradition of picking a spooky read for the Halloween season, we've chosen Agatha Christie's Murder On The Orient Express.

I'm excited to get started on this one!

We'll meet up at my place in mid to late October. I'm thinking appetizers inspired by the Orient Express route, so come hungry.

Also, we've decided to read All The Light We Cannot See, Anthony Doerr. But since this is a long read (500 + pages), we're going to attempt this one for later in the year. Most likely December/January when we'll take a little break for the holidays. That should give us plenty of time to finish. And if you'd like, you can go ahead and get started sooner.

See you in October!

And The Winner Is ...

So we have a winner:  The Daughter by Jane Shemilt. Because we had a 3 way tie, I used TextFixer to randomly select a title. Next time, if you notice a tie and would like to break it, you can always change your vote as long as the poll is still open.
Feel free to invite friends and neighbors. There's tons of space at the beer garden!

Also, I started a closed Facebook group. If you haven't been included and would like to be, just let me know and I will add you to the list. Click here to go to the Lakeside Book Club's FB page.

Happy reading and be on the lookout for a Doodle poll to select the date of our next meeting.

July Book Poll

Hello and welcome to our new book club blog!

It was a close call, but Lakeside Book Club won over Tomes and Tipples as our club's official name.

I have some tweaking to do with the blog template, but let's get started on our July book choices.

We'll meet sometime in July (look out for a Doodle poll later on) at the beer garden.

Please choose one of the following books and vote for it using the poll which should show up in the lefthand sidebar. Let me know if you have any trouble voting.

This Is Where I Leave You, Jonathan Tropper

Orange is the New Black, Piper Kerman

All the Light We Cannot See, Anthony Doerr

Goldfinch, Donna Tartt

Daughter, Jane Shemilt
